Young people must wake up from their day light sleep and work extra hard to achieve their life time goals, says Lovemore Mponda a portrait artist based in the commercial city of Malawi, Blantyre.
Lovemore a 26 year old Malawian is a subject of Group Village Headman Januwale in the area of Traditional Authority (TA) Chimaliro in Thyolo district.
He attended his Primary school education at Januwale primary school in the tea growing district of Thyolo.
Lovemore found it very difficult to be maintaining his performance in class because of transfers his father who was a doctor met oftentimes.
“My father was a doctor in government and he could be transferred from one district to another oftentimes and it was really tough for me to maintain good position in class, to another school I could be position two but to another school I could be position fourteen”, says Lovemore.
Like father like son, from his childhood Lovemore wanted to study medicine to be a medical doctor like his father.
In 2006, Lovemore wrote Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education at Januwale primary school and he got selected to Thyolo Secondary school where he scored 21 points and got selected to Chancellor College to study a four year degree In Education languages which was contrary to his expectation.
“I really wanted to study a course related to mathematics like accounting or concerning health but they consider me in Education languages which did not enjoy it, the only module which I enjoy it and worked hard on from the whole program was fine art module and I decided to implement it into reality “, explains Lovemore.
I started drawing at primary school and teachers could use me to draw maps and other diagrams and everyone could appreciate my drawings,” adds Lovemore.
Like a focused eagle in the sky, Lovemore decided to taste the waters with both legs, he withdrew from the college after spending one year of study.
He went back in Blantyre where he started looking ways on how he can find the resources for his portrait career.
“I started posting my services on Facebook and people commented on it positively and
others started asking for prices on it, “narrates Lovemore.
In a way to get the resources for his portrait art business, He got a temporary job as a private school mathematics teacher in Blantyre where he worked for one term only.
“I just taught for a term just to find a good android phone for communications with customers, pencils and other resources and I got it,” says Lovemore
Currently Lovemore has done portrait of prominent figures like Apostle Joseph Ziba who is a founder of Fountain of victory international church, Rose Chiwambo and a Malawian boxer based in south Africa, Isaac Chilemba just to mention a few
Apart from that Lovemore is looking after himself and his young brothers not forgetting training three young people in portrait art as his ambition is to open a big portrait art studio in Blantyre where young people can earn a living through art.
